This new issue of the Translators' Corner retrieves Javier Marías's last article published in the Spanish media (El País, 11 Sept., 2022). “The truest love of art. There is no doubt one of the most important activities in life is translation” refers to the activity the author practiced with great success: literary translation. Marías had the ability to not only translate stories but also convey real and fictional contexts into Spanish, making the most of his talent as a literary writer in order to render the source text into the target language. The last column Marías wrote serves as a vindication of the activity of translation and of the role translators have played throughout history, particularly literary translators. Emphasis is placed on the genuine love of art that they demonstrate in their work, a generous love which is at odds with their economic or social recognition.
