Abstract:

This is the fourth compilation volume published by the Observatory of the Spanish Language and Hispanic Cultures in the United States, which comprises the translations issued by the center’s Rincón de Traductores/Translators’ Corner on its website throughout the academic year 2022-2023. This compilation includes translations of works from three different genres: five short stories, two poetry sections, and one essay. Worth mentioning this year is the inclusion of some beautiful illustrations that accompany the poems of Clara Janés. The original texts translated here are all contemporary, in fact written over the last three decades, and they come mostly from Spain, although Latin America is also represented by Mexico and Costa Rica. Some of the original authors are well-known and established writers, such as Rosa Montero, Cristina Rivera Garza, Clara Janés and Lorenzo Silva. Three of the translators have collaborated previously with the Observatorio, which shows how the space we created on our website four years ago seems to be functioning as a ‘friendly corner,’ attracting collaborators from other sections of the Observatorio as well as those who had participated previously in the Rincón.

Original texts by: Lorenzo Silva, Clara Janés, Alan Smith Soto, Rosa Montero, and Cristina Rivera Garza.

Translations by: Kevin Gerry Dunn, Ana M. Osan, Katherine Hannula Hill, Christopher Maurer, Erin Goodman, and Francisca González Arias.
