Miguel Hernández’ speech to his companions in the Ocaña Jail was inspired by a meal his friends prepared for him on his release from twenty-five days of solitary confinement. Known as the People’s Poet, Miguel Hernández fought on the side of the Republic in the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939).
