This session, second in a series of seminars coordinated by Dr. Juan Godoy (Harvard University) and titled “Mapping Minorities in the Spanish as Second Language Classroom,” aims to deepen our understanding of the relationship between identity and language in the Spanish-language classroom, doing so from the perspective of gender. The speaker, Juan Antonio Trujillo—Assistant Professor at Oregon State University, specialist in "pedagogies of engagement," latinx trans- and queer studies, as well as linguistic policy—will discuss the topic of Language-acquisition support for queer-identifying persons. Departing from the idea that language is an important tool of self-representation, which helps build and reinforce identities and communities, this seminar explores how to better support students whose identities do not coincide with the heteronormative model inscribed in pedagogical materials and practices.
