Cultural knowledge is one of the main funds of knowledge that Spanish heritage students bring into the classroom. Their daily life exposure during childhood to food, religion, music and to the Spanish language provides them with an advantage over FLL in relation to "knowing" the Latino cultures. Why then include "culture" in our classes for heritage students? What else could we "teach" them? and what else could they learn? In this workshop, we will answer these question by problematizing notions of such as "culture" with big "C" and little "c." We will explore the relevance of teaching cultural heritage in depth through principles of critical pedagogy to incorporate the historical, social and linguistic dimensions that have shaped the Latino cultures.
