Once again, the Cervantes Institute Observatory at Harvard—in collaboration with UNAM-Boston—is organizing its annual symposium. Since 2016, this event, which is always held at the end of the academic year, has brought together specialists from a wide range of disciplines. The symposium will address fields as diverse as literature, history, the environment, translation, education, music, law, journalism, and politics in the context of the Spanish language and its cultures in the United States, including the production of American scholars in Hispanic studies.
As in previous years, the symposium will take place at the Observatory and will span two days (June 4 and 5). It will be held in a hybrid format, and both sessions will include a plenary lecture, several 15-minute presentations, and joint panels; each segment will be followed by a discussion with the audience. Both sessions will be streamed via Zoom. The opening plenary lecture will be delivered by Professor Luis Girón-Negrón (William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of Comparative Literature and of Romance Languages and Literatures, Harvard University) under the title: “Apuntes para la edición de la Biblia de Moshe Arragel: hispanistas, hebraístas y estudios iberomedievales en un marco transatlántico”. The closing lecture will be delivered by Professor Ana Elsa Pérez Martínez (Director of the Center for Teaching Foreigners-CEPE, National Autonomous University of Mexico) with the title: "Centro y periferia: lenguaje juvenil y desigualdad social en México".
