To celebrate International Women's Day, on Thursday, March 6, we will welcome Rubí Tsanda, who will lead the event titled "Uantákuecha énka tsïuantak'a (Palabras que brotan)". This activity will include a Purépecha poetry recital and a creative writing workshop.
Rubí Tsanda will share a selection of poems exploring the representation of Indigenous femininity in contemporary society. The workshop will include creative writing exercises, allowing participants to explore and personalize the themes present in Rubí Tsanda’s poetry.
Rubí Celia Huerta Norberto is from the Purépecha community of Santo Tomás, in the Chilchota Municipality of Michoacán. She is a poet, translator, interpreter, and craftswoman. The author of three bilingual poetry collections, she has also contributed to various anthologies. She currently teaches Purépecha at the Department of Languages at Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo and at the Centro de Lenguas Indoamericanas. Beyond academia, Rubí is deeply involved in revitalizing the Purépecha language through teaching, documentation, and research.
