The Observatorio del Instituto Cervantes at Harvard University will present a screening of the musical audiovisual Back Then, the latest work by musician Frank Maza. This piece is inspired by the fusion of jazz, flamenco, and Cuban music in the United States. The event will feature remarks and a live musical performance by the artist, Frank Maza, together with Javier Limón, music producer and professor at the Berklee College of Music (Boston). In addition, as every year, to celebrate World Book Day on April 23, attendees will receive a rose and a copy of The Latin Beat by Ed Morales, a journey through the genres of Latin American music and their impact on the musical culture of the United States.
Frank Maza is a multifaceted composer and singer based in Boston, influenced by his flamenco and latin roots. Despite his youth, he has already worked with numerous artist such a s Alejandro Sanz, Kiki Morente, Asghar Farhadi, Nella, Carmen Linares, and Juan Luis Guerra. In his last album, he presents his own american songs accompanied by top-tier selection of cuban musicians led by Chucho Valdés and Iván 'Melón' Lewis on piano, Reinier Elizarde 'El Negrón'on upright bass, Yuri Nogueira on percussion, and Javier Limón on flamenco guitar.
Casa Limón is an internationally renowned record label known for working with artists such as Paco de Lucía, Enrique Morente, Carlos Vives, Joaquín Sabina, Alicia Keys, Wynton Marsalis, Joan Manuel Serrat, Anoushka Shankar, and Mariza, among many others. The producer, Javier Limón, founder of the label and multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy winner, brings an organic sound full of wisdom and roots to the new and contemporary songs that Frank has composed for the project.
