Translation is ubiquitous, and invisible when it is done properly (in fact, we only take notice of it when it is not there and we need it, or when it is a defective translation). Society does not and can not develop and evolve without the surrounding presence of translation. One of the techniques with which translation operates, the calque, can become an agent promoting linguistic change when it is not used adequately, particularly if the calque is applied to a product in the broad field of audiovisual and advertising translation. Miguel Duro Moreno teaches at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Ph.D. in Translation and Interpretation (Universidad de Granada), he gathers 30 years of experience in the professional practice of translation and teaching this subject in the university. His research interests include comparative law for translation, the use of free and effective software tools for legal and certified translation, Coseriu’s surroundings fields theory reformulated as a translation model, as well as the linguistic and extra-linguistic issues of audiovisual translation.
