José María Merino (1941) and Ana Merino (1971), father and daughter: he is Spanish and she is a Spanish and US citizen; he is a member of the Real Academia Española, she is full professor at the University of Iowa; both are writers of poetry, novels, short stories and essays, plus she is also a playwright and an expert on comics; he was awarded Spain’s Premio Nacional for novels, while she received the prestigious Premio Adonáis for poetry; he was raised during the Franco years, while she grew up during the Transition period; both are fervent readers since childhood. They will be talking about the act of reading, their literary inspirations, writing for different genres, their life experiences from the perspective of each one’s age and gender… and any other topics the members of the audience would like to suggest.

This Conversation will be presented by José M. del Pino, Dartmouth Professor of Spanish at Dartmouth College, and specialist in modern and contemporary Spanish narrative and poetry, Spanish cinema and Hispanism.
