What can I do to encourage my students speak up more in class? How can I help them to improve their oral abilities? The objective of this workshop is to identify the requirements and factors necessary to transform an oral activity into a good activity of oral interaction. In order to achieve this, we will show prototypes of activities for the classroom. Later, we will analyze the activities from the perspective of the student as well as that of the teacher, extracting valid criteria in order to adapt to a wide-range of contexts. In addition, we will reflect on the languages we use within the class, the roll of affectivity, and creativity, and the use of dynamics that promote participation. The workshop will have a practical focus and aim to also create a space in which teachers can share ideas and reflect on their own performance in the classroom.
