At the end of the 19th Century the seminal work on the brain by Santiago Ramon y Cajal in Spain opened a new era in the scientific understanding of the human brain, our most complex organ. Our understanding of the brain and its function continued through the 20th century with truly transdisciplinary contributions of numerous researchers from many areas that include evolution, chemistry, genetics, physics, psychology and the development of advanced instrumentation. The 21st century has been arguably called “The Century of the Brain”, central to which are several initiatives which are opening extraordinary new vistas to our understanding of this most mysterious organ. What do we know? What do we expect to learn? How will this knowledge impact health and societal issues? These and many other questions will be discussed in a candid conversation with Prof. R. Yuste, proponent of the initiative BRAIN (Brain Research through Advancing
Innovative Neurotechnologies), with the special participation of the Harvard astrobiologist Prof. Juan Pérez-Mercader and the well-knownMexican writer Jorge Volpi.
