Linguistic and cultural contacts in bilingual, multilingual, and multicultural communities, with special attention to the coexistence of Spanish with English and minority languages in the U.S. and in Latin America; identity, social, demographic, political or economic factors that affect the various Spanish-speaking communities in the U.S.; social consequences of Spanish as a heritage language; the important role of bilingualism in personal and social development.
